If I Were To Take A Break From The City

A friend of mine visited me from Canada last week. I was showing him around San Francisco and as it turns out he really loves the city. But the one thing he didn’t love was how hard it was for him to find a place to stay at a price that wouldn’t cost him his entire salary for the month. Before you ask, my apartment is just too small for me to host him no matter how much I wanted to. Saving the city is a worthy cause, but it does not pay nearly as well as it should.

Anyway, we started talking about the prices and I thought that he was perhaps exaggerating. I’m not saying San Francisco is the cheapest place in the world, but renting a place should not be as difficult as he was making it out to be. To decide we decided to look at the price of Cochrane apartments where he is from, and I’ve got to say that he might be on to something here. The houses look nice enough, and at the prices they’re going for even I could afford it which is saying something.

The other thing is that Canada is not a bad place to live for a spell. The people are friendly; its similar enough that you don’t feel overwhelmed, but has enough differences that you can truly tell that you are in another country. So next time I get tired of fighting the good fight and need to take a break from the city, I may very well give Canada a shot.
